June 6, 2012 (Libertyville, Il.) – Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital has been honored by two awards in the Winter/Spring 2012 Web Health Awards(SM) competition.
The Center for Women's Heart & Vascular Health received a Merit Award in the category Website.
Launched in Fall of 2010, the website (www.texasheart.org/women) aims to identify and better understand the development, treatment and prevention of heart disease in women. We are your source for the most accurate, comprehensive and current information on caring for women's hearts. The website provides resources for learning about preventing, understanding, and treating heart disease. You can read past issues of "Straight Talk from Dr. Stephanie" and sign up to receive the e-newsletter each month.
The Auscultation Primer App and Heart Sounds Podcast Series received a Bronze Award in the category Mobile Application for Medical Education.
The podcast series (www.texasheart.org/heartsounds) comprises 22 episodes and continues to grow. This series presents auscultation of various heart sounds as they relate to the anatomy, physiology, and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. The podcasts are developed for physicians, medical residents, nurses, and other clinicians who wish to improve auscultation skills. The Auscultation Primer App is a free download for iPhone or Android mobile devices.
THI is proud to be selected as winners in the 14th annual Web Health Awards program.
This competition—held twice each year, Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall—recognizes the nation's best digital health resources. Winners are chosen from nearly 600 entries judged by a panel of distinguished experts in digital health media. The program is organized by the Health Information Resource Center(SM) (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for professionals who work in consumer health fields. Other well-known HIRC programs included the 19th annual National Health Information Awards, (www.healthawards.com) which annually recognizes the nation's best consumer health programs and materials (for non-digital resources), and two national "Fitness Day" events: The 11th annual National Women's Health & Fitness Day® and the 16th annual Family Health & Fitness Day USA®.
