I am pleased to announce the appointment of the Texas Medical Center’s new CEO, Dr. Robert C. Robbins, as a Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery and a Senior Research Scientist at the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital.
Dr. Robbins, whose principal job, of course, is managing TMC, is a very strong new partner with THI.
Dr. Robert C. Robbins |
He is a highly accomplished surgeon who served as head of the cardiothoracic surgery department and the heart and lung transplant programs at Stanford University. In addition, his research interests include stem-cell therapy for heart failure as well as the genetic determinants of disease and personalized medicine.
Among his roles at THI, he will help to further educate our cardiovascular surgery fellows and collaborate closely with our surgical programs. He will also work with me, Dr. Doris Taylor, Dr. Richard Dixon, and Dr. Emerson Perin and others in our Stem Cell Center, who continue to push the cutting edge in this field.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Robbins and his outstanding accomplishments in cardiac medicine for a number of years, and look forward to working more closely with him.
We welcome Dr. Robbins as the new leader of our proud Texas Medical Center, and onto the THI team.
With my respect and gratitude,
James T. Willerson, MD
