Dear Friend of the Texas Heart Institute,
I hope you will join me in congratulating THI Dr. William E. “Billy” Cohn who has been named a finalist for the prestigious 2013 Edison Awards, which recognize people who “remain in the forefront of innovation, creativity and ingenuity.”
Dr. Cohn, whose ingenuity is surpassed only by his passion for helping people overcome heart disease, invented the
SentreHEART Lariat Suture Delivery Device. The device allows surgeons to treat an all-too-common cause of stroke using a catheter, rather than traditional surgery. This means less discomfort and generally faster recoveries for patients, as well as the potential for savings in health care costs.
It is a significant advancement, which is emblematic of the forward thinking of our world-class research team. We are proud to see it recognized by the Edison Awards judging panel.
As you well know, this caliber of effort to overcome cardiovascular disease is fueled in large part by our most valuable players, the many of you who generously support our work. You are a driving force on this team, and we are ever mindful of it, and grateful for it.
With my respect and gratitude,
James T. Willerson, MD
President and Medical Director
