Dear Friend of the Texas Heart Institute,
We always enjoy sharing news of the many cutting-edge advances we are making in the battle against cardiovascular disease. We like it even better when others help us tell the story.
I am happy to share two such cases currently in the spotlight.
Dr. Doris Taylor |
Under the thought-provoking headline, “Science Fiction Comes Alive as Researchers Grow Organs in Lab,”
The Wall Street Journal featured an article on the promise of regenerative medicine and the significant
contributions of THI’s
Dr. Doris Taylor to this emerging field.
Also, the current issue of the London-published magazine, International Innovation, features a series of articles under the cover story “Vision of the Future.” It includes an interview in which I discuss the critical and innovative role THI continues to play in reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease, and our commitment to new discoveries that may ultimately prevent cardiovascular disease in all its forms.

Finally, we are proud to be in partnership with Olympic Silver medalist runner Leo Manzano, who is doing much to help spread the word about the importance of a healthy lifestyle to help prevent cardiovascular disease, particularly among children, women and the Spanish-speaking community. Leo’s online seven-day fitness challenge for children, in conjunction with THI’s Project Heart, has been a success.
We also were glad to be a sponsor of the annual Manzano Mile in Austin this past weekend, and heart patients Rebecca Trahan and Lisa Hulick ran as “The Twin Tickers” in the family event to help raise awareness among women. Their support group, WomenHeart Houston, meets monthly to help other women survivors.
With my respect and gratitude,
James T. Willerson, MD
