Last weekend the Super Bowl drew most everyone’s attention. This first Sunday of National Heart Month, we have what we believe is more super viewing.
Leslie Stahl interviewed Dr. Doris Taylor in her lab at THI. |
Leslie Stahl sits down for CBS’s
60 Minutes program to visit with THI's Dr. Doris Taylor this coming Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at 6 p.m. on KHOU-TV, Ch. 11.
I think you will find it a fascinating look into the brave new world of regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies that hold much promise for the future of cardiac medicine. THI is among the leaders in this field, and the work of Dr. Taylor and her team and colleagues is a prime example.
I know you will come away from this program with a new sense of the excitement and hope we feel as we push the proverbial envelope of what is possible to cure cardiovascular disease.
You might also be interested in the report local NBC affiliate KPRC-TV (Ch.2) did earlier this week on a clinical trial led by THI’s Dr. Ali J. Marian. Dr. Marian and his team are testing the effectiveness of a drug targeted at hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart defect that is among the leading causes of sudden cardiac death in young people, especially in young athletes.
Of course, your generous and thoughtful support makes possible these and many other examples of the cutting-edge medical science developed by THI physicians and researchers. We are very grateful for your support. We also are very proud to share, through these news programs, some of the life-changing advances for which you also share the credit.
With my gratitude and respect,
James T. Willerson, MD
President and Medical Director
P.S. The generosity in your hearts has changed the lives of others. THI can continue as a world leader in life-saving medical research and advanced treatments with your support.
