Tricuspid Insufficiency

Tricuspid valve insufficiency results in a large V-wave in the jugular venous pulse. As regurgitation becomes more severe, the normal X-trough is obliterated and there may be a single, positive CV wave detected. If the patient is in atrial fibrillation only a CV wave is observed, since an A-wave is dependent upon atrial systole and sinus rhythm. The V-wave of tricuspid regurgitation increases in height during inspiration.
