Question:

May a patient reside in an assisted living facility while awaiting heart transplantation?

Can a potential heart transplant patient await heart transplantation in an assisted living facility?

submitted by Susan from Houston, Texas on 10/19/2013

Answer:

by Texas Heart Institute cardiovascular surgeon, O. H. Frazier, MD

O. H. Frazier, MDIf they meet the parameters and are approved by the medical review board to be listed for transplant then, yes, they can be in an assisted living facility while waiting for transplant.  Although, reasons for which they are in assisted living may prevent them from being a candidate; it all depends.
