Question:

Do I really need to be on a statin?

HaveWith a 0 calcium score, HDL/total cholesterol =.21, Triglycerides/hdl =.97, do I really need to be on a statin with cholesterol of 328 and LDL 233? Female age 56.

Atasu K. Nayak, MDYour LDL [bad cholesterol] is very high. You might have familial hypercholesterolemia. I agree that you should be on a statin and low cholesterol diet. Please follow up with your primary care physician and cardiologist. Thanks.
