Question:

Can PFO closures be done successfully in diabetics?

New procedure for plugging a hole in the heart without major surgery or long recovery -- can this be advisable to person of age 60 and diabetic? Please suggest as different doctors have different opinions.

Roberto Lufschanowski, MDDear Vilas: There are contraindications for the procedure, but diabetes and age are not among them.
