Question:
What is a normal down time for recovery after a Lariat procedure?
submitted by Mikki from Missouri on 2/22/2014
Answer:
by Texas Heart Institute cardiovascular surgeon, William E. Cohn, MD
Hello Mikki. The time it takes to recover from a Lariat procedure varies according to what condition the patient is in before the procedure. Many fairly fit patients are discharged home the following day and rapidly return to full activity. There are some patients (approximately 5%) that develop pericarditis (inflammation of the heart sack) after the Lariat procedure and in these patients, post procedure pain can last a week or two and slow down return to activity. I hope this information is helpful.
