Ask a Texas Heart Institute Doctor

Question:

I have an IVC filter.  Can I still have an ablation with it?

Do you do an ablation with it in? Have had two PE's and a surgery in my groin for a pseudoaneurysm.

Answer:

by Texas Heart Institute cardiologist, Mohammad Saeed, MD

Mohammad Saeed, MDIt is possible to do an ablation with an IVC filter in place. As long as your doctor is aware that you have an IVC filter and takes certain precautions, it is very safe to have an ablation done.
