Question:

Can vascular necrosis cause a heart attack?

submitted by Glen from Kentucky on 6/02/2017

Answer:

James T. Willerson, MDby Texas Heart Institute cardiologist, James T. Willerson, MD

Most heart attacks occur as a result of a blood clot critically obstructing or completely blocking an artery in the heart, ie coronary artery. If the necrosis occurred in a coronary artery, it can definitely cause a heart attack.  Thank you.
