Project Heart Activities for Girl Scouts

Join us in American Heart Month, February 2017, as Girl Scouts celebrate with the Texas Heart Institute for the 3rd year!
Girls will learn the importance of staying fit for heart health with robot "Cool-E" of Project Heart fame while exploring heart anatomy, the cardiovascular system, healthy eating and exercise. While the girls are having fun with games and activities, the adults will be able to learn the Project Heart curriculum that can be implemented with the girls! Juniors will work towards their Staying Fit badge.This meeting is free of charge for adults.

Learn How to Keep Your Heart Healthy and Earn a Cool-E Project Heart Patch
Girls who learn heart-healthy eating and exercise habits at a young age are on the right course to becoming healthy adults. The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council and Texas Heart Institute have joined together to help girls achieve a lifetime of health. By completing a series of fun and educational activities, Girl Scouts will receive a Cool-E Project Heart Patch and a certificate of completion from the Texas Heart Institute (THI). All activities are based on Project Heart, a THI award-winning program that makes learning easy and fun. Curriculum is tailored to academic grade levels, and girls will learn about the anatomy of the heart and circulatory system, the food groups and making healthy eating choices, and how to take care of their health through the power of physical activity.

How to receive your Cool-E Project Heart Patch
Patches are free of charge. We believe in "Scouts Honor" and trust you to make sure the group earns this merit badge.
To receive patches for your troop, email the following to: ProjectHeart@TexasHeart.org attention Keri Kimler:
1. One group photo of troop holding completed activity pages (REQUIRED).
2. At least one photo of your troop during your activity. (REQUIRED)
3. Number of Daisy, Brownie and Junior patches requested. (REQUIRED)

Girl Scout Troop 125016 from First Baptist Academy completed a series of fun and educational activities, to receive a Cool-E Project Heart Patch and a certificate of completion from the Texas Heart Institute. They are dedicated to learning about heart-healthy eating and exercise habits at a young age through our Project Heart activities program, Texas Heart Institute's award-winning program that makes learning easy and fun.

Payton Campbell is an ambassador Girl Scout member of troop 21035 in Bellaire, Texas and a current junior at Carnegie Vanguard High School. During Summer 2015 she partnered with a team of dedicated individuals at the Texas Heart Institute to create an interactive touch box to educate children about their heart and the importance of having a healthy heart. The touch box included hearts from several animals and key facts about each animal. The touch box was donated to the Houston Museum of Natural Science to be used in the educational classrooms.
