Lead Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Programs
Noted surgeon and physician join multidisciplinary team
at St. Luke's Cooley Transplant Center
Houston, Texas (March 8, 2012) – Texas Heart Institute (THI) and St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital (St. Luke's) announce the recruitment of noted cardio-thoracic surgeon, Hari R.Mallidi, MD, from Stanford University Medical School. Dr. Mallidi will serve as Surgical Director of St. Luke's Cooley Transplant Center's Lung and Heart-Lung transplant programs. Ramachandra R. Sista, MD, also joins the multidisciplinary team as Medical Director.

Dr. Mallidi holds several appointments, including Director of Clinical Outcomes Research for the Center for Cardiac Support and Co-Director of the Center for Congenital and Familial Cardiovascular Disease at THI. Additionally, he is Assistant Surgical Director of Cardiac Surgical Circulatory Support and Heart Transplantation at St. Luke's as well as Assistant Surgical Director of the Adult Congenital/Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Program. Dr. Mallidi will also work with the Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) transplant program as a contributing surgeon in TCH's ventricular assist device (heart pump) program. He also serves as Associate Professor of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and holds the position of Director of Lung Transplantation, Adult Heart Transplantation, and Advanced Heart Failure and Lung Failure Programs.

Dr. Mallidi graduated with honors from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1997. He subsequently completed a cardiac surgical residency in Toronto and is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2005. Subsequently, Dr. Mallidi completed a Cardiothoracic Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support Device Fellowship at Stanford University. Following his advanced training, he remained on faculty at Stanford as an Assistant Professor in Cardiothoracic Surgery playing a key role in the heart, lung and heart-lung transplant programs, in addition to leading the Ventricular Assist Device Program at Stanford.
His primary interests include heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support (VAD and ECMO), adult congenital heart surgery, surgery for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and valvular heart disease. Dr. Mallidi's research interests are primarily focused on evaluating the outcomes of cardiac surgical procedures and clinical effectiveness research.
Dr. Sista serves as Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine for Baylor College of Medicine. He received his medical degree with honors from the Guntur Medical College in India and completed his internal medicine residency at Wayne State University. Dr. Sista completed his post doctorial fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University, as well as completed two additional post doctorial fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Lung and Heart-Lung Transplantation.
