The Texas Heart Institute Elects New Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Eric Wade
Institute Positioned for Purposeful Discovery and Global Influence

Houston, TX (May 25, 2016) – The Texas Heart Institute announced the appointment of Eric D. Wade as chairman of its Board of Trustees. Wade, a partner in the litigation practice group of Porter Hedges LLP, succeeds David Grimes who will continue to serve on the Board as a Trustee. Wade has provided legal counsel to Texas Heart for more than 15 years.

“Eric is a thoughtful, visionary and energetic leader, whose passion and experience with the Texas Heart Institute will be a great asset as he leads our Board,” said David Grimes, Trustee and former Chairman. “His intimate connection to the Texas Heart Institute for over 15 years, makes him an ideal leader as we work to achieve our world class vision. I am optimistic about all that is ahead with Eric's leadership.”

Grimes, who served as Chairman for the past three years, has been instrumental in providing strong leadership to the organization and furthering critical partnerships and strategic relationships. His leadership led to a renewed affiliation with The University of Texas System and an affiliation agreement with Catholic Health Initiatives, both of which enable Texas Heart Institute to collaborate with these organizations and ultimately deliver on its mission to reduce the devastating toll of cardiovascular disease. Grimes brought important strategic guidance and stability to the world-recognized institute.

“Texas Heart Institute has been a recognized leader in cardiovascular discovery for decades. I am honored to assume this role and support the organization as it evolves and becomes one of the very top institutes of its kind in the world," said Wade. "This board is committed to pushing the boundaries of discovery through committed, resourceful scientists and physicians who are dedicated to not only changing the future of care, but demonstrating meaningful results. We have great work ahead of us as we align the institute around our most important priorities. I could not be more honored to be in this position."

Additionally, the Texas Heart Institute Board of Trustees recognized William M. Hitchcock for eight years of service as a Trustee following his retirement from the board last month.

The Board of Trustees is comprised of individuals appointed by the Texas Heart Institute and its affiliated partner Catholic Health Initiatives. Trustees volunteer their leadership and have responsibility to provide guidance and direction to the institute.
