Texas Heart Institute Receives Top Recognition for Continuing Medical Education
Houston, TX (August 18, 2016) – Texas Heart Institute has been resurveyed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and awarded Accreditation with Commendation for the next six years as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. This is the first time the Institute’s CME Department has received Accreditation with Commendation, an award recognizing providers who not only demonstrate compliance with core accreditation criteria but who aim for even higher levels of achievement.
“Our Continuing Medical Education Department has been recognized as an accredited provider for over 35 years,” said James T. Willerson, MD, President of Texas Heart Institute. “This year’s reaccreditation with commendation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our CME team, which has been committed to innovative programs in education to help improve patient care for those suffering from cardiovascular disease around the world.”Over the last five years, the Institute has coordinated 128 CME-accredited meetings, 147 regularly scheduled lectures and published 7 free CME activities in the Texas Heart Institute Journal, which is available on its website at www.texasheart.org. Some of Texas Heart Institute’s most popular annual conferences include the Texas Update in Cardiovascular Advancements (Program Director James T. Willerson, MD); Echo Boot Camp (Program Director Ray Stainback, MD); Women’s Heart & Vascular Symposium (Program Director Stephanie Coulter, MD); and the Symposium on Cardiac Arrhythmias (Program Director Mohammad Saeed, MD).
ACCME accreditation seeks to assure the medical community and the public that the Texas Heart Institute provides physicians with relevant, effective, practice-based continuing medical education that supports U.S. health care quality improvement.
The ACCME employs a rigorous, multilevel process for evaluating institutions' continuing medical education programs according to the high accreditation standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations. These organizations of medicine in the U.S. are the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the U.S., Inc.
