Thank you from
the heart.
I can't think of a better time than this holiday
season to say thank you for helping to save my life.
Two years ago at this time, I was an avid
marathon runner and "health nut" with not a moment's thought about heart
disease.
During last year's holiday, I was struggling
with both the physical and psychological recovery from a sudden, spontaneous
coronary artery dissection (tear in an artery in my heart) that had almost
taken my life.
Thanks to the quick diagnosis and action,
as well as the advanced skills and knowledge, of the doctors and staff at the
Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital I was given a second
chance.
So, this year, another "sister" heart
patient, Lisa Hulick, and I are starting a women's heart support group to
help others who are faced with similar crisis in their lives and have nowhere
else to turn. Also, to help me in my continuing recovery. (Visit our
WomenHeart Houston Support Group Webpage)
Needless to say, I am especially grateful to
each of you who has supported the ground-breaking, life-saving research and
education programs at the Texas Heart Institute. My heart is literally filled
with the blessings of your generosity.
I know now that cardiovascular disease
affects more women than men, and is a bigger health threat to women than the next
five diseases combined, including cancers. I'm living with my new reality, and
I intend to make the most of the opportunity. Thanks to you and the Texas Heart
Institute.
With my heartfelt thanks and best wishes
for healthy happy holidays,
Rebecca Trahan
