Giving FAQ

Your heart, our minds; together we save lives.

Because the Texas Heart Institute receives no patient care revenues, philanthropy plays an important role in maintaining our contributions to society and health throughout the world.

Why should I give to the Texas Heart Institute?

Our programs include:

  • Innovations in regenerative medicine and adult stem cell therapies to treat heart disease
  • Development of devices to sustain failing hearts
  • New ways to detect and treat life-threatening blockages in arteries
  • Training young heart specialists and scientists
  • Providing a free Heart Information Center

Over the past four years our fund-raising costs averaged only 3 cents per dollar raised. That means 97 cents of every dollar donated helps hasten the day when heart disease is no longer a threat to our lives.

How do I make a gift?

You may use our secure online donation form (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover) or our mail-in donation form.

Your gift may be made payable to "Texas Heart Institute" and mailed to:

Texas Heart Institute
Development Office, MC 3-117
PO Box 20345
Houston, Texas  77225-0345

Can I make a gift in honor or memory of someone?

Yes. Complete the honor/memorial section of our secure online donation form or mail-in donation form. We will notify the family of a memorial gift or an individual who has been honored that a contribution has been made. It is our policy not to disclose the amount of the gift.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes. The Texas Heart Institute is a 501(c)3 organization. When you make a gift, the Development Office will provide you with the necessary documentation for tax purposes.

I can only make a small gift at this time. Will it still make an impact?

Every contribution makes a difference. More than half of the Texas Heart Institute's operating budget relies on the generosity of people who give what they can. Your support is vital in the struggle against heart disease.

What opportunities are there for recognition?

All donors are recognized in Institute publications unless they request otherwise. Other recognition opportunities available vary with the type and size of gift. Naming opportunities are available for endowments and for the construction of facilities. A gift or pledge of at least $25,000 ensures a permanent association of the donor's name in a prominent location in the Denton A. Cooley Building.

How can I get more information about making a gift?

Our Development Office professionals are experienced in assisting you with all types of gifts and here to work with you and your legal or financial advisors to develop a giving plan that is in your best interest and also fulfills your desire to make a significant difference in the fight against heart disease.

You may contact us at 832-355-3792 or by our online form. We welcome the opportunity to provide detailed information about Texas Heart Institute programs in research and education and ways you can help.
