Project Heart is designed to teach elementary school children the basics of the cardiovascular system and cardiovascular health. As part of Texas Heart Institute’s Heart Information Center, Project Heart extends the community outreach mission to educators by offering comprehensive curriculum materials for grades K through 6.
The core of Project Heart is the curriculum (lesson plans in anatomy, nutrition, and exercise) for kindergarten through 6th grade which is provided on the Project Heart: Activities for the Classroom website. The website is also rich in media that allows kids to interact with the material in games, challenges, exercises, experiments and more. Additional resources include illustrations, audio/visual presentations, news feeds, suggested links, and alignment with state and national education standards. Project Heart is also available in Spanish.
Texas Heart Institute (THI) also partnered with The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council to help girls achieve a lifetime of heath through use of Project Heart. Girl Scouts can receive the Cool-E Project Heart Patch and a certificate of completion from THI by completing a series of fun and educational activities.
